Privacy Policy
Dune Companion — last updated 2026-06-15.
Dune Companion is an unofficial, fan-made encyclopedia and Q&A app. This policy explains what the app collects and why. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, or advertising identifiers, and we never sell personal data.
What we collect
- Questions you ask. Your questions are sent to our backend to generate an answer and are processed by a third-party AI provider (such as Anthropic or OpenAI). We may log questions in aggregate to improve answer quality. They are not tied to your identity.
- Answer feedback. If you tap a thumbs up/down, we store the question, the answer, and your rating.
- Device push token. If you enable the daily-fact notification, we store your Apple Push Notification (APNs) device token plus your preferred time and time zone so we can send one notification per day. The token does not identify you personally.
- On-device only. Your chat history, bookmarks, and the cached daily fact are stored only on your device and are never uploaded.
Third parties
- AI provider (Anthropic and/or OpenAI) — processes questions and reference passages to generate answers.
- Apple Push Notification service — delivers the optional daily notification.
- Apple — handles any in-app purchases; we never see your payment details.
Data retention
Push tokens are kept until you disable notifications or uninstall the app. Aggregate query logs and feedback are retained to improve the service. You can clear on-device chat history any time.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
